About the project
I’m a researcher in audio and deep learning, and a professor of acoustics. I code every day — for research, for teaching, and for building things that don’t exist yet.
JackMate is one of those things.
In my lab, we run both Linux and macOS machines, and we use real-time interactions between Jack audio clients for complex experimental setups every day.
There’s a real paradox: on Linux, JACK tooling is rich and mature, but professional hardware support is often a headache. On macOS, it’s the opposite — hardware compatibility is excellent, the user experience is generally what Apple does best, yet no proper native tool exists to manage the Jack Audio Connection Kit at an advanced level.
JackMate is my contribution to fixing that imbalance. It’s a solo project, built in my spare time, free and open source. No company, no funding. A tool my lab colleagues and I needed — and that you might need too. It can also be a great entry point for discovering JACK on macOS if you’re new to it.
Why your support matters
JackMate is and will remain free. But distributing it properly has a cost.
Apple requires a paid Developer account ($99/year) to notarize macOS applications. Without it, Gatekeeper shows a security warning on first launch — a real friction point for new users who are simply trying to install the app.
