Abstract

This work presents and documents the quarto-cnam-thesis Quarto extension, which enables doctoral students at the Conservatoire national des arts et métiers (cnam) to write their thesis in Quarto Markdown and simultaneously produce a PDF compliant with the 2024-2025 institutional template (book class, pdflatex engine, PDF/A-1b compliance) and a navigable HTML version. The thesis is organised in five chapters, each documenting a family of features: document structure and formatting, figures and layout, equations and tables, callouts and code blocks, and finally references, glossary, and collaborative annotations. Most features are presented following a code + output principle: a Markdown code block displays the exact syntax to use, immediately followed by the live rendering in the document. This self-referential approach allows the document to serve both as a user guide and a live demonstration of the template.
